The unique design of the Udara Spa

Visitors who enter the Udara Spa facilities for the first time often express that they have never seen anything as unique before when it comes to design and craftsmanship of the grotto area with small pathways, intricate carvings and peculiar statues. The sauna is hidden in the belly of Kurma the turtle, a mythological creature that carries the earth, which is represented on the wooden ceiling above. In order to get to the steam room and the meditation cave, you have to carefully make your way to the back of the grotto where you find hidden beauties that are beautifully carved by local craftsman.

But there is more than just beauty to the eyes that make your visit at Udara so special. You hear sounds of dripping waters and relaxing music underwater in the warm water pool (that is also used for Water Healing treatments), feel the nice sensation of slightly salted water while swimming (which is much healthier for your skin than highly chlorined water) and you can try different smells of aroma oil infusions in the sauna. A fresh coconut for hydration is just an arm’s length away at the pool bar and the bean bags on the grass area with ocean view invite you to catch some sun rays. Udara is designed as a place to reactivate all your senses and find balance for body and mind.

Nowadays Saunas are found all around the globe in gyms, wellness centers or hotels. While in former days saunas actually helped people survive in harsh temperatures (read more about the history of saunas in this great article), in the modern world we have rediscovered the benefits of Sauna for health and wellbeing.

Regularly visiting sauna or steam rooms has amazing health benefits:

  • strengthens the immune system
  • improves cardiovascular function and circulation (especially when combined with cold water plunges in between sauna rounds)
  • speeds up metabolism and helps with weight loss
  • helps to release toxins through sweating
  • better recovery after workout, reduced muscle soreness
  • promoting relaxation and better sleep

How to make the most out of your Udara Spa visit

If you are new to visiting a sauna or steam room, our staff will gladly inform you about the sauna guidelines and provide you with a towel for your visit. All you need to bring is your swimwear and some time!

Get ready for your spa experience, put on your swim wear and take a shower. It is recommended to stay in the sauna or steam room for 10 to 20 minutes per session. Sitting or lying on higher benches in the sauna provides you with more heat. Feel free to make a sauna infusion by dripping some aroma-oil infused water onto the stone stove. Relax and enjoy the sweating period. Be careful as you stand up before going outside, as you might feel dizzy if you get up too quickly. After leaving the heat, take a shower and have a dip in the cold pool to improve your circulation and let the body cool down with a little rest in between the sauna rounds. Do 2 – 3 rounds of sauna to get the most benefits for your health. Make sure you hydrate well in between and after the sessions. You will certainly feel relaxed and refreshed after visiting our Spa!
